Courses

Inter-View's training courses are outlined below. Each course can be customised for scope and duration to suit agency culture and requirements. Aspects of these courses can also be addressed through the delivery of information sessions and workshops.

Staff selection: aligns with the APSC’s ‘Getting it Right’ and offers questioning techniques that will test and evaluate key skills, attributes and job orientation. This course incorporates behavioural assessment techniques.

Interview skills/job applications: focuses on building confidence and understanding so that an applicant can pitch their claims realistically and competitively to a classification or level.

Advanced interview skills : for  APS 6/EL1&2 levels & covers more advanced techniques for responding to questions and self promotion.

Designing selection documentation & testing strategies: particularly relevant for bulk round/agency-wide recruitment exercises.

Career transitioning: provides guidance and direction to those considering shifting career streams or alternatively moving out of the public sector.

Writing referee reports: promotes a clear understanding of how existing processes are interpreted and applied and how to deal with sensitive issues.

The primary objective of Inter-View’s training courses is to move from simply applying mechanical processes to focusing on the actual skills and attributes being sought for preferred candidates. It also focuses on helping people be more comfortable with their decision making and gain a deeper understanding of requirements in today's APS.

Consider the entry level postion where requirements are more focussed on potential, adaptability and willingness to learn. Alternatively there may be vacancies where a high level of attention to detail and a strong knowledge of legislation is required, for example in contract management. These two very diverse sets of requirements will require different approaches and treatments in applying due process to merit selection. This is just one area where various questioning styles can be applied to different contexts, a major focus of Inter-View's training.

Alternatively there can be very good candidates available internally with a solid mix of expertise and knowledge . However, they are not always comfortable or effective in promoting their claims. This can relate to a lack of understanding of process, a lack of confidence, or simply not having seriously considered what their strengths are and how they can be promoted to best effect.

There may be instances where staff are targeting particular areas, for example a policy area, but they may not have fully considered how their current skills sets and experience align with the requirements of such a role. This therefore requires career guidance and a realistic approach to considering what might be possible.

Inter-View's training is flexible and readily adaptable to agency/departmental cultures and existing processes to meet challenges such as those outlined above.
